Chitabe Walking Trails is set in one of Okavango's best areas for walking, and now offers a one-night genuine walking trail experience for those who want to be closest to nature. Guests are accompanied by an armed and licensed "accredited" walking guide who will take them on informative and adventurous walks through the different habitats of the Okavango Delta. The walking trail experience allows guests to get their feet on the ground and really feel, smell and touch Africa. We will walk for several hours a day, but it is done at a moderate pace and can be enjoyed by most guests, with plenty of time for quality game viewing and birding on foot. The Trail is completely tailormade to each group of guests and we can increase or decrease the amount of walking to suit the group. Nights are spent sleeping out at one of the hides located in the Chitabe Reserve area. Both hides accommodate guests on elevated platforms, each person sleeping in the hide under a mosquito net with a brilliant view of the spectacular African night sky. Chemical toilets and hot bucket showers constitute the ablution facilities. Simple delicious home-cooked meals on the open campfire are eaten, seated around an elegant dinning table set out under the stars - truly a wonderful way to end an active day. The two hides at Chitabe are located in very different habitats. One hide is situated on the edge of a floodplain which often contains water and enables one to experience the wet side of the Okavango and listen to its distinctive night sounds. The other hide is set within the woodland on the edge of an extensive pan system, which often sees an abundance of elephant activity. Absolute silence, except for the nocturnal sounds of the Okavango's insects and wildlife, that one can experience by sleeping "out in the bush" is magical and one that all guests will mark as a highlight of their African safari. Everyone at Chitabe looks forward to hosting you on this adventurous and unique experience. Chitabe Walking Safari ItineraryFully serviced Walking Trail. Guests walk approximately 3-4 hours in the morning to a pre-prepared brunch site. Relax and siesta during the heat of the day. Then walk about 1 and a half hours in the afternoon to the hide where a sundowner awaits them. A wonderful dinner is enjoyed and then overnight on the elevated hide platform before they set off again the next morning back to Chitabe Camp. These safaris are flexible to guests' needs and vehicle back-up is available should guests prefer to do a mixture of walking and driving to/from or between the hide and camp.
